In addition to being one of the most physically demanding sports out there, motorsport is also one of the most lucrative. Race car drivers are highly sought after and compensated for their expertise. On top of that, they get brand sponsorships that are worth millions. Expert racers like Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are widely regarded as the best in the business, but does that translate into them being the wealthiest among all the car drivers? Check out this list to find out.

Nico Rosberg - Net Worth of $50 Million

Former professional race car driver Nico Rosberg got his start in competitive go-karting pretty early, at the age of six. This is not surprising, given that he is the child of Finnish world champion Keke Rosberg. Nevertheless, he made a name for himself, winning many regional and French national championships.

The majority of Rosberg's income comes from his racing career—he is thought to have an estimated net worth of $50 million as of 2021. He is among the top-paid racing drivers, along with his teammate Lewis Hamilton. Some of the driver's moolah comes from many endorsement contracts, two of which are luxury travel accessory maker Tumi and Thomas Sabo.

David Coulthard - Net Worth of $80 Million

David Coulthard may be retired, but his net worth definitely does not look like it. The British former racing driver's Formula one career began in 1994 and ended in 2008. Yet, he made a comeback to the world of motorsports competition, joining Mucke Motorsport in the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) and remaining active until the end of 2012.

Because racing is his passion, Coulthard participated in the Race of Champions once more, finishing second in the Drivers' Cup in 2008 and taking home the trophy in 2014 and 2018. Although the famous driver earned most of his fortune from his sport, he had other sources of income; after retiring from F1, Coulthard immediately became a consultant for Red Bull and a BBC commentator.

Bobby Rahal - Net Worth of $80 Million

Robert "Bobby" Rahal initially rose to prominence as an auto racing driver. It was only later that he became a team owner. With his career in front of the wheel, the Ohio native won 24 races in the CART open-wheel series and three championships, including the 1986 Indianapolis 500. As a team owner, he succeeded in winning the 2004 Indianapolis 500 through Buddy Rice, the race's victorious driver.
